Tips to avoid the side effects of waxing

Peels for ingrown hairs and pigmentation on bikini and underarms:

  • We use RegimA NATURAL Peel & Heal, and it is safe to use all year round on all skin types and skin conditions.  Treatment may be done during pregnancy.

  • Treatments may be done two months after the use of roaccutane or cortisone. We use the medically approved peeling formula.

  • For pigmentation weekly treatments are recommended and treatments can progress to monthly of six weekly or as required.

  • During treatment a slight stinging or itchiness can be experienced. Dehydrated skin might itch more during extreme weather conditions like extreme heat or cold; stinging sensation might be more.

  • Redness and heat might be experienced during treatments. One might experience tingling, itching, during and after treatments as well as redness and possible swelling.

  • On dark skins, peeling areas might look darker initially as dead skin is sloughing off continued treatments are advisable

  • Do not expose treated areas to sunlight or sun beds.

  • This product will not cause sun sensitivity or pigmentation.

  • The Peel is available in different strengths and we use a 70% or 90% strength on bodies only. A series of peels is recommended if one is to achieve the most impact on ingrown hairs and pigmentation etc.  The time of peel applied must be very gradually built up especially on darker or Asian skins.  This will also depend on condition of the skin, how the peel is tolerated, combined with the discretions of the doctor or therapist.  One does not have to experience extreme peeling of the skin for the peel to work.  A certain amount of dead skin is removed on neutralization.  One can tell this by the immediate smoothness of the skin.

  • As part of the essential home care you must ensure that you use the home care products for post-peel immediate care (for home use): The products have a natural anesthetic effect and helps relieve itchiness or tingling.  For the first night (or more if there is any visible peeling) one must only apply this product to any area that may be flaking or peeling.  Any acidic products may tingle more initially following the peel e.g. C –Serum for pigmentation.

The peel solution will be applied with a cotton pad to the body.  As these are time dependent natural acids, it is essential that the peel is neutralized thoroughly and it will be necessary for you to wash several times. Client must neutralize the peel on their body 2-4 hours after application with the supplied cleanser and running water in the shower.

Ingrown hairs
Sometimes even good home care does not help with stubborn ingrown hairs. We have developed a Peel treatment that will loosen trapped ingrown hairs and help you achieve beautiful smooth skin. Clients that are allergic to Vitamin A should proceed with caution. We see amazing results with our peels.
Red bumps or spots
Waxing removes hair from the roots and skin that’s waxed for the first time may appear spotty. This is quite normal and the tiny spots will disappear in 2-24 hours. There should be no itching. Avoid taking a hot bath/sauna, excessive work out and direct sun. Apply Soothing cream or Aloe gel to the area.
Extremely sensitive skin
Medication like antibiotics, antidepressants, acne medication, vitamin A, caffeine or cortisone can contribute to extremely sensitive skin. Inform your therapist of any new medications you are on. If you are unsure if your skin will tolerate waxing, we will do a patch test first. Treat sensitive skin with Soothing lotion, Aloe gel and Calamine lotion.
Pimples or puss filled spots
Pimples on the back or chest can appear due to the transfer of bacteria from a worn shirt after a wax. We recommend you bring a clean shirt to put on after your wax. We apply a disinfectant to your skin before and after waxing to minimise breakouts and will recommend a Serum that you start applying after your next shower to stop the breakout in its tracks.
Itchiness or hives
Clients that are allergic to plasters or nuts or specific ingredients may show signs of itchiness or hives after their first wax. This can be prevented by doing a patch test first and waiting 24 hours before continuing with the waxing. An anti-histamine can alleviate the symptoms as well as applying Soothing lotion and Aloe gel.
Avoid sun or sun bed exposure before or after your waxing appointment. Even short periods in the sun can cause damage to your waxed skin. Always tell your waxing specialist if you were in the sun.
